Environmental Science

A program that focuses on the application of biological, chemical, and physical principles to the study of the physical environment and the solution of environmental problems, including subjects such as abating or controlling environmental pollution and degradation; the interaction between human society and the natural environment; and natural resources management. Includes instruction in biology, chemistry, physics, geosciences, climatology, statistics, and mathematical modeling.

Rising sea levels, disastrous storms, and devastating wildfires are environmental issues we’ve seen or read about in the news. Environmental scientists collect and analyze data from the environment. As an Environmental Science major, you’ll use your biological, physical, and chemical knowledge to understand how population growth, urbanization, and other issues impact the environment. You’ll research and analyze the causes of environmental problems and find solutions for climate change, biodiversity issues, sustainability, and cleaner energy. 

Your undergraduate training will prepare you to apply scientific knowledge and technology to mitigate the negative impact of things like pollution, global warming, and climate change on the environment.
